EARMARK ANNOUNCES LATEST INNOVATION IN FIREFIGHTING EQUIPMENT
Earmark is a leading manufacturer of wireless communication systems for use in noisy environments. For many years, the
firefighting community has been asking for a wireless interface to their traditional hard-wired intercom systems. Earmark
has developed a technology that allows a pump panel operator to maintain full duplex wireless connectivity to the fire truck
intercom as well as the mobile radio with a cost effective upgrade to standard firefighting equipment.
The Earmark system, called wLINK®, consists of a base station which is mounted in the cab of the fire truck and is hardwired
to the fire truck intercom system which is, in turn, hard wired to the truck mobile radio and a portable unit that is
connected to a headphone. The portable unit fits easily in the radio pocket of a turnout coat.
The base station is powered by the truck battery while the portable unit is battery powered with over 12 hours of available usage.
Upon reaching the
scene of an incident, the pump panel operator no longer has to be tethered to the truck using standard firefighting gear.
Instead, the pump panel operator can move within 300 feet of the
truck while maintaining connectivity to the intercom.
Like most firefighting gear, accessibility while in action is key to the wLink's® success. By using a large, easily
accessible push to talk button, the firefighting professional can also communicate using the fire truck radio. The system
provides excellent hearing protection and has the durability and weather resistance required by the
firefighter.
